Beaver Creek Environmental Services (Formerly H&S Consulting) is a South Puget Sound based consulting firm that has provided environmental services for a diverse range of clients and projects in the Northwest for over 25 years.

Our projects range from single family home-owners through large scale commercial/ industrial, residential and government evaluation, design, planning, development, mitigation and restoration. Beaver Creek scopes, designs and monitors all facets of your environmental consulting needs, big or small. No matter the project, we can help!

WHAT ARE CRITICAL AREAS?

Critical areas are wetlands, aquifer recharge areas, frequently flooded areas, geologically hazardous areas, and fish and wildlife habitat conservation areas. Government agencies are mandated to manage these areas for natural function and public value.

HOW DO I KNOW IF THERE ARE CRITICAL AREAS ON MY PROPERTY?

Most critical areas have been identified, but not all have been mapped. In most counties, a critical areas expert is required or suggested to survey properties with potential or known critical areas during sale, purchase or building.

WHAT ARE "FISH AND WILDLIFE HABITAT CONSERVATION AREAS?"

"(1) "Fish and wildlife habitat conservation" means land management for maintaining populations of species in suitable habitats within their natural geographic distribution so that the habitat available is sufficient to support viable populations over the long term and isolated sub-populations are not created. This does not mean maintaining all individuals of all species at all times, but it does mean not degrading or reducing populations or habitats so that they are no longer viable over the long term. Counties and cities should engage in cooperative planning and coordination to help assure long term population viability." WAC 365-190-130

WHAT KIND OF WILDLIFE COULD REQUIRE A HABITAT STUDY?

All species named by the Endangered Species Act (ESA) such as the Streaked Horned Lark, Mazama Pocket Gopher or Cutthroat Trout have special protections under federal law. State, local and tribal law also mandate the monitoring of certain waterways and land-forms as habitat corridors for fish and game. These species can include fish, elk, large predators, and others.
